GroupTube Games
Play classic Chess online with a friend on GroupTube — one shared 8×8 board, live moves, and voice or video for a real-time match.
Chess is one of the world’s most popular games: two players, one 8×8 board, and full information — everyone sees the same position. On GroupTube you can have a focused match with a friend, while you stay on voice or video.
How to start playing
Two players join the game. Moves and captures are shared live, so everyone in the group sees the same board — ideal for coaching or a friendly audience.
Rules
The game rules on GroupTube match standard chess (same rules used in tournaments worldwide).
1. Starting Position
Each side starts with 16 pieces on their first two ranks: pawns on the second rank, rooks, knights, bishops, queen, and king on the first. White moves first unless the app assigns seats differently.
2. Objective
Checkmate the opponent’s king: the king is under attack and cannot escape by moving, blocking, or capturing the attacker.
3. Movement and capturing
Each piece type has its own moves. In general, you capture by moving onto a square occupied by an enemy piece and removing it from the board. Pawns move forward but capture diagonally.
4. Check
If your king is attacked, you are in check and must get out of check on your turn. You may not make a move that leaves your king in check.
5. Draws
The game can end in a draw (no winner) in several situations — for example stalemate, threefold repetition, the fifty-move rule, or insufficient material. Players can also agree a draw.
6. Special moves
Castling, pawn promotion (when a pawn reaches the far rank), and en passant apply under the usual conditions.
